“Money” - N.A.S.A. (feat. David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge, & Z-Trip)

I’m going to do something a bit different today, dearies. So far, the bloggers of DFTD have spent our time writing on songs and artists we love, and for good reason - why celebrate crap music? After all, isn’t that what the Grammys are for? But keeping this in mind, I’m going to tell you that I do not love N.A.S.A. I THINK that I like them, but even of that I’m not entirely sure. I think the root of my problem lies in the fact that I am, at best, functionally retarded when it comes to most rap music, but what intrigues me most about N.A.S.A., thus why I’m posting on them, is how incredibly INCLUSIVE they are. On Spirit of Apollo, they collaborate with half of anyone who matters in music, from Karen O to Method Man to Spank Rock to David Byrne to M.I.A to Tom Waits. At the very least, it’s a fascinating experiment in what happens when you bang together a bunch of wildly divergent points of view, and even if rap isn’t really my genre, I must admit that the experiment sorta seems to work.
