Yeah Yeah Yeahs - “Skeletons

I’m warming up for my new mission to get this blog slapped with a pirating lawsuit ASAP. So here’s “Skeletons” off of the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, It’s Blitz, set to release on April 14th, 2009.

Fanfarlo - “Ghosts”

BOOOOOO! Get it? Song = “Ghosts,” Boo? Whatevs. Fanfarlo’s Reservoir album was released this past Valentine’s Day. A little bit of Neutral Milk Hotel and The Octopus Project, this London-based group of six has put together a mix of melodies that’s pretty hard to dislike after the first run-through. I was swayed to share “Ghosts” as horns and violins and thongs are so hot right now… so, so, very, very hot.

Wait whaaaaa? You need more!? Here’s a video of the lead singer/guitarist & violinist jammin’ in the back of a cab:

Animal Collective - “My Girls”

Off the Merriweather album which came out a few weeks ago, Animal Collective manages to BLOW YOUR MIND with this video which has nothing to do with the actual lyrics to the song. Suggestions for taking full advantage of this viewing experience: 1) Turn up volume & bass. 2) Turn off every light source available. 3) Take off all clothing, except socks. 4) Press Play. 5) Dance.

Balmorhea - “The Winter

Love Week is officially over. I celebrate the end of Valentine’s Day with a track from the instrumental geniuses behind Balmorhea. It comes off the Rivers Arms album which a friend of mine had sent over a few weeks back but I hadn’t got around to listening to until last weekend, when iTunes was doing it’s magical shuffle dance and landed on “The Winter.” Now, as some of you know, nothing gets in the way of my Sunday mornings which are spent disproving multi-variable calculus theorems on a blackboard. But as soon as I heard the violin & piano begin their hypnotic, understated waltz, the chalk piece had to be put down. A great album for anyone wanting a break from vocals. It’s unofficial title is The Soundtrack For Everyone’s Life At Some Point In Their Life.

Bon Jovi - “Livin’ On A Prayer

My final post for love week comes from Bon Jovi… but is taken to the next level by a random Boston Celtics fan who realized he was on the Jumbotron as the song played during break. Watch the beginning as his mother taps his knee to let him know he’s on the big screen.

TAKE MY HAND. WE’LL MAKE IT I SWEEEEAAARR WHOOOOOOAAAAOOAAAAAAA LIIIVING ON A PRAAAAYYYER!!!

<3 rules, bitches.

Little Joy - “Brand New Start”

So you have the Strokes. Then one of them thinks “Holy crap, I’m going to move to the west coast, branch out, and make another band!” Then that band makes an album named after the band name, Little Joy. And on that album named after the band name, Little Joy, is this track, “Brand New Start.” Voila.

“There ain’t no lover like the one I got.” Happy V-Day folks.

She & Him - “I Thought I Saw Your Face Today”

Anyone else noticing how we’re all trying to smash in love songs before this whole themed week is over? Well the love doesn’t have to end after Valentine’s Day… that’s just what THEY want you to think! I SAY SCREW THEY. So this song found it’s way from a hottie’s inbox in Paris to mine. Not gonna lie, I’ve never (knowingly) listened to She & Him though apparently their Volume One album won Paste Magazine’s album of the year in 2008. Must share this one as its helped me realize that all great love songs should have whistling solos. That and it reminds me of Willy Wonka’s “Pure Imagination” song. Odd. Don’t judge me.

Bright Eyes - First Day Of My Life My bad. I know I should probably be posting music that some of us haven’t heard before, but this whole love week theme has forced me to rewind and play one of the tracks which you’ll remember from the I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning album. Easily accessible song, video with people of all shapes and sizes, and Oberst effortlessly expressing the idea of love without the sugar coating overdose in his lyrics. OK!? Ok. So if you wanna be with me With these things there’s no telling We just have to wait and see But I’d rather be working for a paycheck Then waiting to win the lottery.
