The Explorers Club - Do You Love Me?

What’s that? The genius bloggers behind Don’t Forget To Dance are celebrating this upcoming Valentine’s Day with a week of posts about love!? OMG SHUT UP!     I played a non love-related song off of The Explorers Club’s Freedom Wind album for Matt Gross, the brains behind this operation, and he immediately threatened to start erasing my posts if needed. Does he really hate the sound of The Beach Boys that much as well? Because this band is blatantly influenced by them. Listen to the track, laugh at the cheesy verses, but do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES fight the uncontrollable sway of your body that will take over when the chorus hits. Here’s to <3.

The High Dials - “Killer of Dragons” from Moon Country

High Deals

What is it with iPods losing their battery life over time? Mine currently lasts for about 2 hours before dying. That only gives me enough time to listen to this mildly psychedlic-ish track 28.62 times in a row while away from my castle. I’ve posted “Killer of Dragons” off of the Moon Country album for 2 main reasons: 1) Percussion echoes are underrated and 2) Dragons… also underrated. Errrr, ok one more reason: I haven’t listened to the Flaming Lips in a while so this album may hold me over til Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots finds its way into my playlist again. Domo arigato.

Telefon Tel Aviv - “Helen of Troy” Can’t say I’m huge on electronica music… but when the recipe for a track includes half a cup of “Take On Me” and a tablespoon of “When In Rome,” I’m game. “Helen of Troy” off of Tel Aviv Telefon’s 3rd full-length album, Immolate Yourself, is what I’ve decided to wake up to tomorrow. The electronica duo released their most recent album on January 20, 2009, just two weeks ago. Two days after their release, the duo was ended by the death of one of the members at the age of 31. “It breaks my heart to inform you all that Charlie Cooper, my better half in Telefon Tel Aviv, passed away on January 22nd.” -Joshua Eustis
